EU Foreign Fighters in the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian War : A Glance into the Legal Protection Offered by International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law

In the latest Saar Blueprint, Elza Seferian examines the legal status of EU foreigners who have been involved as combatants in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine since 2022. Initially, the author takes a definitional approach to the concept of the EU foreign fighter. Subsequently, she explores the legal protection of EU foreign fighters in the context of the Ukraine conflict, first from the perspective of international humanitarian law and then from the perspective of international human rights law.
